St Mary le Strand Church is a beautiful building with a wonderful acoustic. It is a perfect place for all kinds of music.
On Wednesday evening services, during term-time, our student-led choir lead the music with a range of classic and contemporary mass settings or, on certain occasion an anthem. The choir is open to all London students and meets from 4.30 p.m. on Wednesdays for a rehearsal before the service.
Strand Community Choir
The Strand Community Choir is a new choir that we are running in partnership with the Northbank BID. The community choir is open to all and runs on Thursday evenings from 6.00 – 7.00 p.m. See the What’s On page for more information and a link to an Eventbrite page if you want to let us know you are coming.
Concert Pianist in Residence: Warren Mailley-Smith
In 2016 Warren Mailley-Smith became the first British pianist to perform Chopin’s complete works for solo piano from memory in a series of 11 recitals at St John’s Smith Square. Hailed by the critics as an “epic achievement”, Mailley-Smith will repeat the series across the UK in coming seasons.
He has given acclaimed solo recitals at The Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and has performed for the British Royal Family on numerous occasions. One of the busiest concert pianists of his generation, he will give over 100 solo performances in 2023. During the Coronavirus Pandemic he performed over 80 online solo concerts, with over 120 works to over 300,000 people worldwide has been at the forefront of developing online streaming as a means for musicians to continue performing. He is Artistic Director of www.CityMusicLive.co.uk.
A passionate chamber musician, he is Artistic Director of the Piccadilly Chamber Music Series and is founder and Artistic Director of The Piccadilly Sinfonia.
